Not keeping the faith

December 18, 2010

Christopher Hitchens, speaking on how it is acceptable for the faithful to promote their ideas to those on their last legs :

“Suppose there were groups of secularists at hospitals who went round the terminally ill and urged them to adopt atheism: ‘Don’t be a mug all your life. Make your last days the best ones.’ People might suppose this was in poor taste.”

Yes, that would be in poor taste, because a person dying in horrible pain can’t live his/her “best” days anymore. That’s the best a secularist can offer?
And why would a christian(there’s only christians and non-christians) trade eternal life for supposedly “best” dying days in bed? That would be absolutely insane. Even offering that would be idiotic and in poor taste indeed. That’s why secularist won’t do that.
