Helpful retail advice

October 6, 2010

I’ve been looking for a wooden box on ebay and have come across some wonderful pieces of advice, conjecture on the origins of the items and other intriguing insights into the mind of the sellers. Here are a few extracts:

Simple wooden storage box

GREAT FOR DIY / HOBBY AND CRAFT WORK, ISN’T PERFECT BUT CAN DO THE JOB’

POSSIBLY BEST LEFT IN THE GARAGE

CAN BE USED FOR VARIOUS THINGS

Japanese style jewelry box

‘A sumptuous inlaid wooden box which I believe was made in Japan, and at the very least in the Orient.’

‘As with most wooden objects, unless you have trustworthy provenance, they are very hard to date.’

‘The next question is what the box is used for? It could possibly be a cigarette box. The shape and depth would possibly lean towards this. It could however have been made purely as a trinket box..’

(Goes on for a while suggesting various things it might have been, until finally…)

‘Could the box be a piece of Prisoner of War work from WWII?’

Wooden crate (noticed by Copes)

‘I don’t do refunds. I am a very private person.’
