Religion, democracy and ‘enlightenment values’ – RSA event

April 24, 2010

I’ve been listening to a lot of RSA podcasts recently (they’re free from itunes) and this event should be a interesting one religion,-democracy-and-enlightenment-values. There was a dispute a few years back between Ian Buruma and Christopher Hitchens et al after he described Ayaan Hirsi Ali as an ‘Enlightenment Fundamentalist’ and ‘absolutist’. You can read Hitchens on that episode here 2161171

I suspect the use of ‘enlightenment values’ instead of enlightenment values suggests he is going to take aim at these ‘fundamentalists’ (it’s catching) once again. It should make for an interesting listen.
